SUBFLOORING CORRECTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

WHY DO SUBFLOORS NEED TO BE CORRECTED?

Any uncorrected subfloor will cause hard surface flooring - luxury vinyl plant (LVP), tile, hardwood, laminate, or resilient, etc. - to be installed improperly. This will result in making the new flooring highly vulnerable to damage, in addition to voiding the manufacturer's warranty.

WHAT ARE SUBFLOOR CORRECTIONS?

Subfloor corrections are repairs needed to address any subfloor/substrate "flatness" issues which are outside the allowable tolerance identified by flooring manufacturers to maintain a product's warranty.

Subfloor corrections typically consist of, but not limited to, flattening and evening out "humps or dips", addressing cracks in the floor, and water damaged areas.

Subfloor correction remedies can run the gamut from non-invasive topical corrections to completely tearing out and replacing the subfloor, depending on the severity of the damage or unevenness. A complete assessment of the floor is necessary to determine the extent of any corrective work needed, and pricing.

An assessment can be performed only after all existing floor covering has been completely removed as subfloor/substrate issues can be undetectable under the existing floor coverings. Note: If an area receiving new flooring is totally exposed, i.e. an unfinished basement floor, Tish Flooring can provide an assessment and pricing for corrections ahead of installation.

WHEN IS A VAPOR BARRIER NECESSARY?

Crawl spaces support the living areas above and act as a buffer between the house and ground below. A crawl space must have a vapor barrier to comply with the manufacturer's warranty guidelines, as well as our labor warranty. Our installation crews will check crawl spaces for existing vapor barriers as a service to you! At Tish Flooring, we want our customers to enjoy their new floors for years to come, and a proper crawl space vapor barrier is essential to ensure the longevity of your new floors!

Customers can outsource labor for flooring corrections, but manufacture specifications for flatness are required for Tish Flooring to perform a warranted installation.

WHAT IS THE COST OF FLOOR CORRECTIONS?

Floor corrections, when necessary, are a separate cost from our original invoice and can sometimes be costly. Once the subfloor is exposed, we will stop work, assess, and provide pricing for recommended floor corrections to keep the flooring in accordance with the manufacture guidelines. Then, the work and costs required will be discussed with you and explained in depth. Once the corrections are made, your floors are flat, and new flooring installed, they will look and feel fabulous for years to come!
