The 2018 International Surfaces Event: Tiles and Hardwoods and Planks, Oh My!
Last month, Tish Flooring took a trip out to Las Vegas. We didn’t go out to hit the slots (OK, maybe just a few quarters), we went out to take part in the International Surfaces Event. This mega-event, made up of three of the largest flooring tradeshows in the world, is the place to be for people like us: lovers of all things flooring and fashion.
We had a fantastic time and saw new innovated, high-style introductions at the show that we are excited to bring back to Indy. You’ll have to keep an eye out for some of these amazing products in our showroom as new displays arrive and our Project Managers will have the samples when they come to your home.
In the meantime, here are a few of our favorite things we saw at the 2018 International Surface Event.
High Definition Tile Patterns… on the Walls!
Tile has always been a flooring option that lends itself to creativity and personal expression. It can be used in a variety of spaces (bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, foyers) in a variety of ways (checkerboard patterns, unique arrangements and color schemes, subdued, flamboyant).
Aside from floors, tile is also used widely as a backsplash in kitchens and bathrooms. With new innovations in high definition styling, more subdued tones and texturing, particularly weathered and distressed hardwood themes continue to grow in popularity with designers. Also growing are the formats: wider and longer tile planks. At many exposition spaces, tile was displayed as both floor and wall covering (for accent walls). Feature or accent walls enrich and create a one-of-a-kind aesthetic in a family room, study, bathroom or common living space.
Submerged Waterproof Floors
We have always expressed our appreciation of resilient high-grade vinyl flooring for its authentic hardwood styling and benefits to homeowners, ease of installation (lower labor cost), warmth underfoot and its water resistance benefits. Well, the folks at Genesis gave “100% waterproof” a whole new meaning with their vinyl flooring.
They didn’t want to demonstrate its water resistance by spilling water on it. No, that would be too easy. Instead, they dunked an entire board in a tank of water and let it sit all weekend long, just to show that it wouldn’t warp, bloat or deteriorate under even the most extreme circumstances. In fact, several manufacturers have comparable products as “waterproof” seems to be the ticket for active households.
Watch Out for Wood Tiling
When you think hardwood, you probably often think of great, big, long, sturdy boards. Most of the time, you’d be right. But, the people at Fabrica are trying to change the perception of fine hardwood floors. We spotted their booth and along with them a great selection of wood tiling. No, not tiling made to look like wood; tiles made of wood.
Wood tiling isn’t anything new, but it is not quite as commonly seen as standard hardwood planks. Wood tiling allows for the unique, creative expression that is achievable with regular tile, but allows owners to maintain the sophistication and richness of hardwood.
