Looking Ahead: Design Trends for 2025
The beginning of a new season is a great time to reassess what we have going on and decide whether it’s working for us. If it’s not, we consider how we’d like to change it, and make a plan to do so. Our homes are no exception! Are your floors tired and worn out? Or maybe just outdated? What’s new for 2025 in the world of flooring? Read on to find out.
Warmer Wood Tones
When it comes to hardwood flooring, or the realistic wood visuals of laminate and vinyl plank, we won’t be seeing nearly as many neutral or gray options. Instead, look for flooring in warm tones, possibly as a nod to a more timeless, classic design style.
Alternative Flooring Layouts

In addition to warmer tones, we can expect to see more alternative layouts. In the past, some hardwood floors could be found in parquet or concentric style. Today, look for flooring installed in patterns such as herringbone or chevron.
Green Flooring Options
The movement toward environmental friendliness continues with consumers looking toward engineered flooring, and other easily renewable resources, such as jute and wool. Engineered flooring, which is a layer of wood over a core, uses considerably less real wood than hardwood flooring, with the added bonus of feeling authentic underfoot. Jute and wool rugs are both manufactured from materials that quickly regrow, which makes them great options when promoting conservation.
Area Rugs
For our area rugs, 2025 will see area rugs in a layering trend. Area rugs can be placed over wall to wall carpets to designate areas within a larger room, or smaller area rugs can be layered over larger rugs, to create visual interest.
Of course, there will always be area rugs used the traditional way. In addition to the natural fibers mentioned above, consumers will continue to see plenty of synthetic options, because they are user friendly and easy to clean. In today’s busy households, time is of the essence!
Carpet
Speaking of carpet, although it has been on a steady decline in favor of other flooring options, 2025 may see a rise in carpeting. Carpets, while not difficult to maintain, can hold on to dust and dirt. Despite this, it is gaining popularity for places like bedrooms, due to the cozy factor. Carpet instantly makes a room feel warmer and comfortable.
