Marsala: Bring Pantone’s Color of the Year into Your Décor

In case you have been living under a rock, the Pantone Color of the Year has been announced and it’s beautiful. Marsala, Pantone 18-1438, is the Color of the Year 2015. And while we aren’t sure you should rush out and cover your home in Marsala-colored carpet, you should definitely think about accenting your home with the shade. Here’s how to incorporate Pantone’s Color of the Year into your décor.

Described by Pantone as, “a naturally robust and earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls.” Now that’s a color we can get on board with! While last year’s Radiant Orchid wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea (read how to decorate with Radiant Orchid here), Marsala is a color that plays well with a plethora of other hues. It looks gorgeous with more neutral, warm palettes like beiges, cognacs and earthy browns, but it also looks nice with cooler tones like steel grays and blues.

Whether you decide to paint one wall or an entire room in the color, the dusty, brick red shade will look great for years to come. The color would look lovely in a living room, kitchen, dining room or bedroom. If you’re remodeling your kitchen, consider pairing Marsala with tiles in red-orange tones. Any shade of hardwood flooring will help accentuate the rich, red-brown undertones in Marsala.

If you don’t want to commit to painting any walls in your home, you can still incorporate Marsala into your décor in other ways. Decorative pillows on your couch or in your bedroom are a great way to bring the color into a room without a lot of effort. Curtains, bathroom towels and area rugs will also help pull Marsala into your living room, bathroom and bedroom. Table runners, tablecloths, napkins and place-mats in the rustic hue will look beautiful on your kitchen or dining room table.

If you want to take Marsala for a test drive before incorporating it into your décor full time, try creating some artwork in the shade to accent your home. Pantone illustrates the color as “a tasteful hue that embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.” Use Pinterest to find inspiration for art projects you can create to add a touch of Marsala to your office or bedroom. Paint blank canvases and frame them for a chic DIY project. Your options are endless!

Marsala is a great color to feature in your home this year. If it’s not for you, use any of these tips with a color you love. For more tips on adding Marsala to your décor, or to find flooring in the shade, give Tish Flooring a call at 317-879-8474 or visit our website today!
